On the Monday after Coptic Easter the whole country shuts the office and heads outdoors. Cairo's parks fill, the Nile corniche fills, every patch of green in the country fills with families on blankets unpacking feseekh, spring onions, lettuce and dyed eggs. The festival is pharaonic – three thousand years older than the religious calendar that grew around it. Every Egyptian, every faith, picnics together.

01 When does Easter fall and how does it align with the school holidays?
Easter 2027 falls on 4 April (Western Easter Sunday). The UK Easter holidays for most state schools fan out around it – typically the last week of March through the second week of April. Independent schools usually break a week earlier. If your school's Easter break is the standard fortnight, both weeks fit an Egypt trip neatly.

02 What's the weather like in April in Egypt?
Genuinely excellent. Cairo: 26–29°C days, 15°C nights, very low rain probability. Luxor and Aswan: 32–35°C days, 18°C nights. The Khamaseen wind (occasional sandy gusts from the south) can hit for a day or two in April – we watch the forecast and reschedule outdoor visits if it does. Otherwise it's the second-best weather window of the year after winter, and arguably the prettiest because the light is softer.

03 What's Sham El-Nessim and should we plan around it?
Sham El-Nessim is the Egyptian spring festival, celebrated the Monday after Coptic Easter – the whole country, every faith, picnics with feseekh (salted fermented mullet), spring onions, lettuce and dyed eggs. It's pre-Christian, going back to pharaonic Egypt's spring rite, and one of the genuinely lovely cultural moments to catch. Nothing closes for tourism but the parks fill and the mood is unmistakable. 04 Is it quieter at the temples than Christmas?
Meaningfully quieter, yes. Western and Coptic Easter dates rarely overlap (Coptic Easter is usually a week or two later), so the festive surge spreads thinner. European coach groups are present but the volume isn't December. The Nile cruise schedule runs full but cabins are easier to come by than at Christmas – we typically have choice three months out, sometimes less.
